Why Coaches Can Make or Break Your Fantasy Serie A Team

In Fantasy Serie A, the coach can be a game-changer. Learn how scoring works and use the difficulty coefficient to maximise your points.

In Kickest, most managers spend hours fine-tuning their squad of players—yet many overlook one key position: the Coach. And that’s a mistake. In Fantasy Serie A, your coach can be a decisive source of points (or costly losses) every single Gameweek.

A coach’s score is calculated by summing all the bonuses and maluses earned in their real-life match, and then multiplying the total by a difficulty coefficient based on the difference in value between the two opposing coaches. That means that not all wins are equal, and sometimes losing with a low-rated coach can hurt far less than losing with a high-rated one.

How Coach Scoring Works in Kickest

Every coach starts with points based on match events:

ActionBonus/Malus
Victory+10
Draw+4
Defeat0
Goal scored by team+3
Goal conceded-2
Clean sheet+3
Goal scored by a substitute+2
Away win bonus+2
Home defeat malus-2

The Difficulty Coefficient: Your Hidden Advantage

Here’s where it gets interesting. Kickest applies a Coach Coefficient to the score, representing the difficulty of the match-up. The bigger the gap in price between the two coaches, the more it affects your final points:

  • If your coach is more expensive than the opponent, their score is multiplied by a value between 0.60 and 1.00 depending on the price gap.
  • If your coach is cheaper, the score is multiplied by a value between 1.00 and 2.50—meaning beating a stronger (and more expensive) coach pays off big.
  • Negative scores work the other way: instead of multiplying, they are divided by the same coefficient, which can make a bad day even worse.

Example: In Serie A’s opening matchday, Como’s Cesc Fàbregas (price: 8.5) faces Lazio’s Maurizio Sarri (price: 10). If Fàbregas wins, his score will be multiplied by 1.30. If Sarri wins, his score will be multiplied by 0.90.

Why You Shouldn’t Underestimate Your Coach Pick

Choosing the right coach in Fantasy Serie A is not just about picking a manager from a strong team. It’s about maximizing upside and limiting downside based on the schedule, team form, and—most importantly—price differences.

A smart coach selection can swing your Gameweek, especially when the match-up allows you to take advantage of a high coefficient. Ignore it, and you might be leaving easy points on the table.
