Fantasy Serie A: 5 Bold Picks for Round 3

The first Round went very well for Admin 1, while the second one went terribly with the tips, so the ball is now in Admin 2’s court, since when the going gets tough, some people prefer to run away. With the third Round of Serie A coming up, we’re back with five not-so-obvious names for Kickest.

Let’s arm ourselves with the necessary tools — Fixture Ticker at the ready — and try to identify five interesting players not only for this Round, but potentially for the next three or four as well.

On Kickest, in fact, every transfer costs 5 penalty points. Going for a player who is useful exclusively in the very short term therefore makes little sense, unless you are so convinced of their potential that you believe they can immediately repay not only their own cost, but also the entire penalty generated by the transfer.

The goal, therefore, is to find less obvious profiles who can offer value straight away, but who also have what it takes to remain in our teams over the coming weeks. Here are the five names we’ve picked for this Round.

Wladimiro Falcone (GK – Lecce)

Admin 1’s tips last week began with a counterintuitive choice (which went very badly), so we’re doing the same by picking the goalkeeper who conceded four goals in the last Round: Wladimiro Falcone (9.7cr).

Lecce looked to be in real trouble on Monday afternoon against Roma, but we don’t know how much of that was down to Lecce and how much was down to a Roma side in absolutely incredible form. Looking back at the first Round, the Salentini played a match of great defensive discipline, with a superb Falcone helping them keep a clean sheet and secure the win.

Lecce’s captain is no longer a surprise, as shown by his 8.5% popularity rating on Kickest, a sign of a player who has become a fan favourite among managers.

The biggest pro of this pick, however, remains Lecce’s schedule. Our Fixture Ticker suggests that this could be a good pick for at least the next two Rounds, after which you could alternate him with another goalkeeper or sell Falcone if he has generated a good capital gain.

Valdepenas (DEF – Fiorentina)

It is true that Fiorentina are undoubtedly the team struggling the most among the 20 Serie A sides. The 3-0 home defeat to Frosinone on the club’s centenary, immediately after the 4-0 loss away to Roma, dramatically turned around the mood of a fanbase that had started dreaming again following the club’s transfer campaign.

Perhaps the team’s main problems also stem from the transfer market: a lot of new players put together for the first time, alongside a new coach and new management. Inevitably, a period of adjustment is needed, but it cannot last much longer.

One of the few positives from last week’s home defeat also came from the transfer market: Victor Valdepenas (13.4cr). The Spaniard was, alongside Mastantuono, the best of his side, especially in the first half, when he also hit the post.

Against Torino, it is already a dramatic challenge. Grosso and his players need to start picking up points, but with an eye always on the schedule, this could be a long-term pick.

John Yeboah (MID – Venezia)

Another major disappointment after the first two Rounds is undoubtedly Venezia, who played well and created a lot without managing to score against Lecce, before producing an excellent final half-hour at San Siro against Milan. The result, however, was always the same: 0 points.

Against Frosinone, this is already the second direct clash of the season, and after losing at home to Lecce, Venezia cannot afford to get it wrong again. That is why we think going for John Yeboah (10.6cr) is a good idea.

Among the best players in the first two games, especially against Lecce, where despite the defeat he still picked up 18.6 FPT on Kickest without an assist or a goal. The feeling is that Venezia are particularly dangerous when their unpredictability comes into play.

Luis Milla (MID – Como)

Perhaps the first two starts, together with the confidence expressed by Fabregas in words and deeds, have still not been enough to convince managers, given that Luis Milla still has a really low popularity rating on Kickest: just 2.1%.

After the games against Udinese and Napoli, it immediately became clear that the 31-year-old Spaniard had quickly become the focal point of Como’s organisation, both with and without the ball. Much like Caqueret and Perrone did at times, albeit inconsistently, last year. This season, Fabregas has his concepts projected directly onto the pitch, thanks to the technique and balance Milla has immediately brought to the team.

On Kickest, his average score is 21.2 FPT, with 20.8 against Udinese and 21.6 away at Napoli. He also takes almost all set pieces (excluding shooting positions) and is a real engine in midfield, constantly making himself available everywhere on the pitch. Last but not least, the Fixture Ticker points out that Como have the second-most “favourable” schedule, at least on paper.

Giorgi Kvernadze (FWD – Frosinone)

Frosinone are coming off the back of the celebrations in Florence, following a 3-0 win over Fiorentina that nobody would have predicted. It should nevertheless be said that Alvini’s side had already shown some excellent ideas against Juventus, losing only 1-0 and hitting the crossbar late in the game.

Sunday’s game against Venezia will be the first real direct clash for the newly promoted side, who will also have to adapt immediately to a different type of game, playing a match that should be more evenly balanced on paper. This is where the final name on this week’s list could make the difference: Giorgi Kvernadze (7.9cr).

The Georgian winger is already the player with the most successful dribbles in the league and registered one assist against La Viola. He certainly needs to become more clinical, but at 7.9 credits, and with a relatively “quiet” schedule ahead for Frosinone, he is worth putting a couple of chips on.
